Four innovations with the best performance were selected as winners of 'The Artisanal Mining Grand Challenge: The Amazon'
In total, 121 applicants from 22 countries around the world applied, with more than 50% from countries in the Amazon region.
The selected projects were from Peru, Colombia, Ecuador, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Australia.
From AI-powered forest monitoring to mining tools that reduce mercury use, the Amazon CoLab will accelerate solutions that aim to transform artisanal and small-scale gold mining practices to be more environmentally responsible and socially equitable.
