All of the countries where the Grand Challenge solutions will be applied have started public policies for the formalization of artisanal and small-scale mining with varying success and difficulty. This webinar will share with participants the context about advances in formalization in each country, so that potential applicants may understand the challenges, opportunities, and above all, the obstacles that miners face in the formalization process, and how potential applicants can help promote and maintain the formalization of miners.

One of the impacts with the greatest consequences for the environment and the health of miners and other human populations around and downstream from mining sites is the use of mercury in the gold mining process. In this webinar, potential applicants will learn how miners obtain mercury, how they use it, the consequences of mercury use and the technologies that exist to avoid and reduce its use in the process.

The webinar will give potential applicants an overview of the application process, provide guidelines and best practices for how to create a winning application, and answer any questions you may have.

In this event, winners and finalists from the first round of the Artisanal Mining Grand Challenge share with potential applicants their experiences with the Challenge and will offer advice and provide other comments on their inspiration, aspirations, challenges, and why they participated and what they gained from the Challenge.

In each step of the ASGM value chain, there are gaps that prevent traceability and the ability to have confidence in the legal origin of such gold for commercialization. The purpose of this webinar is to explain the gold value chain, relevant problems and concerns, and the need to certify the traceability of this precious metal.

Join us for the first webinar of the series, where we will offer a broad overview of the reality and impacts of artisanal and small-scale gold mining in the Amazonian countries where the Challenge is focused. In this event, there will be the participation of experts from Colombia, Peru, Ecuador, and Guyana, who through the sharing of their professional experiences and accounts, will describe the on the ground circumstances and reality in each respective country.
